Our commitment to ED-safe design

Why every CarbClue screen has a mode that hides numbers — and how we built it from day one.

CCThe CarbClue teamProduct & research

Food tracking can become unhealthy for some people. That's why CarbClue ships an ED-safe mode that hides calorie and weight numbers across every screen, keeping the guidance qualitative.

It wasn't bolted on at the end. ED-safe mode shaped how each component was built — every number has a quiet variant, and a broken streak is never framed as failure.

A broken streak is not a failure — it's just a next meal.

We'd rather lose an engagement metric than create panic. 'Welcome back. Today just starts from your next meal' is a design principle, not a nicety.
